Xandra Donders
House in Spain
Xandra Donders doesn't make paintings nor lino-block prints in the literal sense, what she makes is somewhere in between these two methods. The tentative definite composition is achieved following many sketches, after which she makes a lino-block print. But first she uses abstract colors on her canvas. The linoleum will then be treated with merging colors of ink and she will still work while the print is wet. Consequently, no print resembles another print. Normally, she works in limited editions of three to five pieces that vary greatly. Real graphic artists will immediately say that this is not graphic art in the strict sense of the word, because the ground rule of this profession - the duplicability of one and the same work - is not observed.
